Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of sweets can you make for my event?

We specialize in custom cakes and cupcakes and on occasion can supply the demand for cakepops.

How soon should I place my order?

We accept limited orders each week and since all of our cakes and cupcakes are baked and decorated as you order them, please place your order at least one week (7 days) in advance. On occasion, rush orders may be possible and subject to a fee depending on the turnaround time, complexity of the order, and supply availability. Please contact us to find out if our schedule can accommodate your order.

When do I pay for my sweets?

For weddings, a 50% deposit of the total amount of the wedding cake is due within one week (7 days) of receiving the contract. This deposit is nonrefundable and non-transferable. The balance for the wedding cake must be paid in full at least one week (7 days) prior to the delivery date.

For other events, a 25% deposit of the total amount of the order is due within one week (7 days) of receiving the invoice. This deposit is nonrefundable and non-transferable. The balance may be paid upon pick-up or delivery.

ORDERS WHICH HAVE UNPAID INVOICES WILL BE CANCELLED.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, and credit card via PayPal Invoicing.

What if I need to cancel my order?

If you cancel more than 7 days before your event, you may receive an adjusted refund. Cakes cancelled less than 7 days before your event cause forfeiture of your deposit.

Do you do cake tastings?

Yes! We currently schedule cake tastings for weddings and other large orders (subject to LouLou’s Cakery’s judgement) on Saturdays in the daytime and Wednesdays in the evening.

Tastings are $25 for up to three flavors of cake, fillings, and buttercreams and serve two people. Additional guests may come and taste cakes for an additional fee of $10 per person. Upon signing a contract with LouLou’s, the $25 fee will go towards the final total of the order.

When you schedule your tasting, we will discuss flavor choices to be tasted. During the tasting appointment we will further discuss flavor ideas as well as design elements, size options, cake stand needs, and other aspects of your wedding cake.

Do you deliver?

Yes. Delivery is free within a 5-mile radius of the N. Glebe Rd and Washington Blvd intersection. Within 10 miles the fee is $20.00, within 20 miles the fee is $30, and within 30 miles the fee is $45. Beyond 30 miles will be charged at a rate of $1 per mile based on round-trip mileage.

Do you ship cakes or cupcakes?

No, we do not ship our products at this time. Please sign up for our newsletter if you are interested in being contacted when or if we decide to start shipping.

How do I transport my cake home?

All cakes should travel safely. However, sudden stops and quick turns cause the most damage to cakes in transit. These are some tips on getting your cake to its destination safely:

-Cake boxes should be in a level position.

-When possible, bumps and holes in the road should be avoided.

-Try to avoid making sharp turns and rapid stops.

-Brace box with heavier objects to keep box from sliding.

-Keep vehicle cool.

-Do not hold boxes, secure them safely to a flat surface in your car such as the floorboard or the trunk.

LouLou’s Cakery is not responsible for cakes once they are picked up and setup by customers or once they are delivered and setup at the venue by LouLou’s.

I’m on a budget! Can’t I get a “dummy” cake with sheet cakes in the back and it be so much cheaper?

Not always. The cost of the Styrofoam dummies can be almost as costly as the cake itself. In addition, there is still the cost of decorating the dummy and the cost of the baking and decorating the kitchen/sheet cakes. We are happy to discuss this idea with you to see if it is the right choice for your event. A budget friendly idea for feeding a large crowd is to have a smaller cake supplemented by cupcakes.

Can I rent a cake stand from you?

You can! Availability is limited though. Contact us to discuss your needs and we will try to accommodate you.

What about allergies and special diets?

We suggest that you tell us about any allergies before placing the order so we can advise you of the best options for you and your family. We use wheat, nuts, eggs, and dairy in our facility. However, often times we can accommodate gluten-free, egg-free,  dairy-free, and vegan diets for an additional fee. Nut-free products do not incur an additional cost.
